nother student has died due to complications which arose after being administered with the Rubella vaccine and the Health Ministry has launched a special investigation into the tragedy.
The student, R. H. Asanthi was a 13-year-old, and was studying in Grade 8 of the Minuwangete Maha Vidyalaya.
“The administering of the vaccine has been suspended as a result,” said Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage, Ministry Secretary.
Asanthi was among four students admitted to the Wariyapola hospital on the 10th of this month after being administered with the Rubella vaccine. Three were transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
According to the Director of the hospital, two of the students had been discharged after treatment.
However, R. H. Asanthi, who was receiving treatment at the ICU in Kurunegala, died last night.
The postmortem was scheduled for this morning at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
