WELIOYA, JAFFNA & EAST: COLUMNS of valiant troops, now closing in on MULLAITTIVU stormed LTTE’s famous “PASARAI” Sea Tiger base in ANDANKULAM in the WELIOYA sector and brought the entire complex with triangular bunkers providing overhead protection on Monday (22) after resisting the fire-power of the enemy.
The Sea Tiger camp, believed to have been used by terrorists operating as Sea Tigers had two separate huts which served as sentry points. The camp has been surrounded by three triangular-type tall bunkers with overhead protection layers made of concrete.
Meanwhile, troops continued their provocations against terrorists in the same area till about 6.00 p.m. on Monday (22) by way of engaging terrorist bunker lines and also firing artillery rounds against their positions. Troops also came across 147 anti personnel mines and seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that had been kept hidden by terrorists.
During those clashes in ANDANKULAM, at least seven more Tiger terrorists fell dead and fourteen terrorists suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, suspected terrorists on a three-wheeler have shot and killed two women in the VAVUNIYA town late night on Monday (22). The reason for the killing is yet to be identified according to the Police.
In the meantime, several rounds of clashes in NAVATKULAM and north of PALAMODDAI resulted in the loss of four terrorists and injury to at least seven more terrorists.
Troops in KARANIPPAIKULAM during a search came across skeletal remains of a dead Tiger terrorist along with one LTTE belt, one pouch, one grenade, one anti personnel mine and a few more LTTE items by the side of the skeleton.
Meanwhile, another search conducted in MAKIYAPIDDY, JAFFNA found four 40 mm grenades.
Similarly, following information, the Police conducted a search in VAKAREI, VERUGAL and SINNAGANGA areas and uncovered five outboard motors of 15 HP hidden in a jungle.
