Bronze and marble Buddha statues belonging to the 7th and 8th centuries have been discovered during recent archaeological excavations in the ancient Abhayagiriya Vihara area, Anuradhapura.

According to the project's Director Professor T. B.Kulatunge similar buddha statues were earlier found in Weheragala and Maha Vihara.
