The government has decided
not to allow any UPFA
candidates to participate in
any programmes of ‘Sirasa’
TV and not to get any
advertisement of the UPFA
election campaign telecast
through the channel. An
individual who had joined
the government recently
after forming his own party
when he was sacked by his
former party and who by
force obtained the
ministerial portfolio given to
his party when the person
nominated for the post left
his party has made a special
mediation in this decision
say sources in the
government.
This person has put forward
the proposal at the meeting
of the party leaders of the
UPFA held under the
leadership of the President
recently. It has also been
decided not to invite ‘Sirasa’
network for the rallies of the
UPFA to be held for the
general election but not to
obstruct if they come to
cover the events on their
own.
The relevant person who
presented the proposal had
said not to obstruct ‘Sirasa’
journalists who come to
cover the events but arrange
attacks on them so that no
one could blame them for
the attacks as ‘Sirasa’
journalists were not invited
but had come on their own.
A web site that favours the
government had published
that the government would
not hesitate to take the
second and third steps
regarding ‘Sirasa’ if the
necessity arises. It had been
discussed to take maximum
measures against ‘Sirasa’ by
inciting masses showing the
network as one that
represents western interests.
