Sri Lanka is to discuss with the US government about the implications of its sanctions on Iran which has affected the crude oil imports needed for the Sapugaskanda oil refinery, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Keheliya Rambukwella said today.
The Minister said that due to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran the importing of oil from Iran has been met with complications and therefore the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery has halted operation due to inadequate crude oil.
However he said that dialogues between relevant stakeholders such as the US are being carried out.
He further added that in the case of oil imports from Iran being totally inaccessible, alternate sources of obtaining crude oil such as Oman are being looked into.
