SWOT - Sri Lanka

Strengths: Resilience. A great batting line-up, athletic fielding and possibly the best bowling line-up in the tournament.

Weaknesses: Malinga's loss through injury is a massive blow. He's the tournament's top wicket-taker.

Opportunities: New Zealand have been defensive with the toss, choosing to field. Lanka can turn that to their advantage.

Threats: Shane Bond. If he has a good opening spell he can send back the Lanka top order.

SWOT - New Zealand

Strengths: An amazingly well-rounded team. Almost all the batters, from Fleming and Fulton to Styris, Oram and McCullum, have had good knocks. Bond is superb and so is Vettori.

Weaknesses: Very few, but one grudgingly conceded is that the Kiwis do not have too many world-class players with the exception of Bond. The team cannot depend on individuals to see them through. Some may see that actually as their biggest strength.

Opportunities: Fleming's team needs one more win to guarantee the semis spot.

Threats: Murali and the Lanka top order. Both are proven match winners.

Pitch Report: The 22 yard strip to be used for this game is an absolute beauty. It is a flat track which possesses a thick blade of grass but one wonders whether that would make any big difference as this pitch has been rolled out pretty flat and the grass is more or less dead. It bears a lot of small patches but hitting those areas would be more like McGrath's practice session of hitting a coin on the track. All in all, a pitch which should last the whole quota of 100 overs. And as per Michael Holding, this would be a tricky call for the captain who wins the toss and I just get a feeling that, it is better to lose the toss and wait for the other skipper's decision. Fleming goes the conventional way. Put some runs on the board and put pressure. Mahela too says that he is unsure whether to smile or frown on Fleming's decision...
