Sri Lankan YouTube channels are missing
Social media is buzzing with word that famous Sri Lankan YouTube channels are seemingly disappearing one by one, a phenomenon that seemingly started yesterday morning. So far the Channels of popular YouTubers – Lakai Sikai, Janai Priyai & Chuti Malli Podi Malli (CM PM Comedy) appear to be missing.
These YouTubers mainly focused on comedic content and had a large base of subscribers.
This is not the first time a Sri Lankan YouTube channel has been taken down. Last year another famous Sri Lankan YouTube channel with over 500,000 subscribers disappeared overnight, leaving audiences in confusion.
YouTube is owned and maintained by Google, and there are many reasons why Google might decide to take down a YouTube account. The general two main reasons why a channel might be taken down is due to YouTube policy violations and copyright strikes.
Although the said channels have disappeared, some of their content can still be found on third party Facebook pages and third-party YouTube channels. Furthermore many copycat YouTube channels seem to have sprung up to take advantage of the missing channels.
