How to Detect a Hacker Attack

How to Detect a Hacker Attack

    • Windows machines
    • Unix machines
Most computer vulnerabilities can be exploited in a variety of ways. Hacker attacks may use a single specific exploit, several exploits at the same time, a misconfiguration in one of the system components or even a backdoor from an earlier attack.

Due to this, detecting hacker attacks is not an easy task, especially for an inexperienced user. This article gives a few basic guidelines to help you figure out either if your machine is under attack or if the security of your system has been compromised. Keep in mind just like with viruses, there is no 100% guarantee you will detect a hacker attack this way. However, there's a good chance that if your system has been hacked, it will display one or more of the following behaviours.

Display Ur Name In Start Button!

Display Ur Name In Start Button!

    Step 1 – Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited. Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For purposes of this article I have used "Resource Hacker".
Resource Hacker TM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executable s and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, Win ME, Win NT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems.

The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer. Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe as shown in Fig.01.

    i9608_1.JPG

    Fig.01
The category we are going to be using is String Table. Expand it by clicking the plus sign then navigate down to and expand string 37 followed by highlighting 1033. If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38. The right hand pane will display the stringtable as shown in Fig. 02. We’re going to modify item 578, currently showing the word “start” just as it displays on the current Start button.

    i9609_2.JPG

    Fig.02.

There is no magic here. Just double click on the word “start” so that it’s highlighted, making sure the quotation marks are not part of the highlight. They need to remain in place, surrounding the new text that you’ll type. Go ahead and type your new entry. In my case I used "Yourname" as shown in Fig. 03.

    i9610_3.JPG

    Fig.03.

Compare the screen captures in Fig. 02 and Fig. 03 and you’ll notice that after the new text string has been entered the Compile Script button that was grayed out in Fig. 02 is now active in Fig. 03. I won’t get into what’s involved in compiling a script, but suffice it to say it’s going to make this exercise worthwhile. Click Compile Script and then save the altered file using the Save As command on the File Menu. Do not use the Save command – Make sure to use the Save As command and choose a name for the file. See Fig. 04. Save the newly named file to C:\Windows.

    i9611_4.1.JPG

    Fig.04.

Step 2 – Modify the Registry

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it’s necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. If you don’t know how to access the registry I’m not sure this article is for you, but just in case it’s a temporary memory lapse, go to Start (soon to be something else) Run and type regedit in the Open: field. Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon

    i9612_5.1.JPG

    Fig.05

In the right pane (Fig. 05), double click the Shell entry to open the Edit String dialog box as shown in Fig. 06. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.

    i9613_6.1.JPG

    Fig.06

Close Registry Editor and either log off the system and log back in, or reboot the entire system if that’s your preference. If all went as planned you should see your new Start button with the revised text.

    Here my result:--

Make Firfox More Faster 300% Working

Make Firfox More Faster 300% Working

Step_1: Open Firefox and type about:config in the address bar where you normally type a web address.

Step_2: Then click the button: "I'll be careful, I promise".

Step_3: In the filter bar below the address bar type network.http.

Step_4: Double-click on "network.http.pipelining" to change the setting from false to true.

Step_5: Double-click on "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to change the value from false to true.

Step_6: Double-click on "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" and change the number to "30". This means it will make 30 requests at once.
(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)

    Step_7: Several lines above network.http.proxy.pipelining you’ll see
    "network.http.max-persistant-connections-per-proxy" and
    "network.http.max-persistant-connections-per-server".
Double-click each line and change the value to "8".

Step_8: Two lines up locate and double-click on "network.http.max-connections" and set the value to "48".

Step_9: Now right-click (control-click on a Mac) anywhere in the configuration (the area where you’ve been making the changes). Select "New" then "Integer".

Step_10: When prompted, copy and paste or type the following into the field provided: nglayout.initialpaint.delay.

Step_11: When prompted to add a value, enter the number "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Step_12: Close all windows and tabs. The changes will take effect when you restart Firefox.

These changes allow Firefox to make multiple server connections and will speed up page downloads for better, more efficient use of your broadband connection. If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

    PDF Files Can Talk?

    PDF Files Can Talk?

    pdficon.jpg

Did you realise that if you use Adobe Reader 6.0 or 7.0, you can have a bot talk on the contents of the pdf file?

    Open a pdf file then,

Ctrl+shift+b - to hear the entire Document
Ctrl+shift+v - to hear the page
    Ctrl+shift+c - to resume
    Ctrl+shift+e - to stop

Try out the hear the page if the hear the entire document doesn’t seem to work because of long pdf file content.

    Overclock your mouse!

    Overclock your mouse!
"]Windows by default has the usb ports working at 125Hz of 1000Hz that USB is capable of, giving 8ms response times. You can change the frequency to 250Hz(4ms), 500Hz(2ms) and 1000Hz(1ms) to get better response times.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Instructions: (Works on WINXP32,64 BIT, Vista en W7)

    Includes 5 Appz:

    usbmrs11.exe
    mouserate.exe
    mousefix.reg (removemousefix.reg)
    accelfix.exe

    usbmrs11.exe
This is the program to make your mouse reach 1ms, thus faster and more precise.(For Windows XP/2k3)
After you opened it and clicked "Patch" (SAFE MODE RECOMMENDED)
You will see your current mouserate, which should be 125.
You will be asked the following:
    Enforce a polling rate of 250 Hz/4 ms? (Y/N)
Here you can choose if you want 250,500 or 1000.Choose no to the first one(250) to get to 500 or 1000. You can try 500 first and see if you like it or try right away 1000. Some people experience stability problems with 1000 hertz though, I don't know why but it's really worth trying it out, the feeling is undescribable. Reboot and check with Mouserate.exe if it worked.
Set it back to 500 or windows default if you have problems with it.

    Mouserate.exe
This simple program allows you to see at what rate your mouse goes.Just move your mouse.

    Mousefix.reg
This is a tool many gamers use, I'm not quite sure what it does except remove windows acceleration in your registry. For some reason I think It doesn't remove it for some people thus why I have included accelfix.exe. Mousefix Remover included in the pack.

    Accelfix.exe
A little tool that every Razer Diamondback user should have. You MUST remove windows acceleration with a Diamondback or else it will just suck.
You will see if it's enabled or disabled with this tool and you will be able to turn it off if mousefix.reg didn't do the trick.

Also, for people who don't know what settings to use in your Razer Diamondback drivers I would strongly recommend to turn off Master acceleration and Master sensivity control and put Windows Pointer speed control at 5, then mess with your Sensivity. Play at 1600dpi!

    ASLO VISTA COMPATABLE!
