its like this, the CD u got with the PSP can auto run the update without any connection, as the needed security functions are included with the CD, so you no need to do any changes.

if the games ask u that need to update, u accept it. it will upgrade ur soft according to the game requirement and will play the game.

this question will ask on and off for new games. this is due to security reasons.

after u setup your network settings.. on the psp settings tab, thr's n option to update is.. ( u gota have the memory card for this as the file is saved on it ) after it's downloaded u gota simply go to "games --> memory stick" tab n u'l c the update file thr.. just run it.. ( make sure ur battery is fully charged b4 u do this ) the newest version is 4.01

p.s danewmen is ryt but u're required o have the latest update all the time. the CD comes with the older version (mostly).

I don't really recommend updating your psp using the official sony firmware unless you plan to keep on buying original games.. There are custom firmwares and other homebrew stuff that could help you get more out of the PSP in the long run. If you are interested first could you tell me your PSP firmware version by going to the system settings tab and clicking system details
