An Assistant Superintendent of Prisons has been appointed by the Prison Commissioner General to investigate yesterday's inmates escape attempt from the Kalutara Prison. Prison Commissioner General, Major General Vajira Wijegunawardene said there is evidence that the daily routine checks had not been carried out by the officials who were on duty.
Following the incident 45 new prison officers have been appointed to the Kalutara Prison with immediate effect.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Ministry of Justice yesterday said they would take disciplinary actions against the prison officials who have not reported to the duties during this daring escape attempt.
Six prisoners were shot dead when they attempted to escape from the Kalutara Prison in the pre-dawn hours of yesterday while another four inmates were severely injured.
