The United Trade Union Front of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced that the workers of the state-owned electricity monopoly will strike work today over the slash of year-end bonus of Rs. 5000.
Ranjan Jayalal, a leader of the trade union front said that the workers of the CEB would launch a continuous protest before the CEB headquarters in Colombo Fort from 11 am today.
He further said that the bonus remained in the same level for ten years without increase or decrease until the management decided to slash it this year.
A leading Sunday newspaper reported this week that the loss of the CEB for year 2008 is Rs. 4.5 billion.
