Top fashion tycoon eyes hub status for leading brand Per Una in Sri Lanka in partnership with renowned local manufacturer Naqeah Enterprises.
George Davis the creator of Next of the UK who was on a brief visit to Colombo speaking with the Daily Financial Times observed that it was the “can do” attitude and speedy delivery of the people of Sri Lanka, among other reasons that had attracted the country to being established a hub for the manufacture of his key designs for the Per Una label.
He has already produced headware garments for women such as knitted hats during the past three months which have proven its potential. “I actually do invest a lot of time and money in hubs in Turkey, Italy, Hong Kong, China, India and now in Sri Lanka,” he said. The attitude of the people in the industry in Sri Lanka is one of speed; Davies noted adding that “for me setting up a hub here means all operations will be handled from here”.
Presently 450 new designs of Per Una are being manufactured per month which is bound to increase with growth expectations set high with Davies’ latest hub established in Colombo.
Commenting on working with a Sri Lankan entrepreneur he noted that “you need a person who smells and breathes a country….so if you got somebody in the industry and with one who has a feel it’s a far better chance”.
“What I’ve found in those three months is the attitude and speed,” he noted and in this respect he has plans of enjoying the opportunities from this hub in Sri Lanka.
This is considered to be an “immense opportunity for growth” according to the Naqeah Enterprises Director Ali Jafferjee.
“It will give a true meaning for quality production in Sri Lanka,” he noted adding that this partnership that was established about a month ago would see tremendous opportunities for growth.
