There is no more room for growth in BIA. Sri Lankan Airport should issue IPO and build new terminal buildings. Sri Lanka should shift small passenger flights to Ratmalana. Ratmalana runway should be extened to the lakeside to at least accommodate a A320 passenger aircraft. They should also shift Cargo flights to Hambantota. Sri Lanka should build a terminal for at least 5-10 million passengers at BIA. BIA is overcrowded.

Civil Aviation Authority to take over 25 acres of Air Force land to develop Ratmalana airport

    11 May 2018

The Civil Aviation Authority will take over 25 acres of land belonging to the Air Force in Ratmalana to develop Ratmalana airport, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament today.

He said the Authority would pay Rs 7250 million to the Air Force for the land.

He said the modernization of the Ratmalana Airport would strengthen the air transport both domestic and international.

The Minister revealed the plans for the airport during the second reading debate on the Civil Aviation (Amendment) bill.

The Bill is being amended to make touting for passengers within the premises of the aerodrome an offence and to prescribe for the procedure in case such an offence is committed.

Remember State Engineering Corporation has a lower bid then Japanese offered one. Which you need to bring in a Japanese firm. The project is stopped that is why they are building a temporary shed.
