Sri Lankan Airlines – Excess Baggage Charge

Guys, oyalata hitena widiyata me case ekata adalawa SriLankan Airlines eka excess baggage charge karanna ona widiya mokakda?

My ticket baggage allowance:

• Checked baggage: 30 kg
• Cabin baggage: 7 kg
• 1 Laptop bag (allowed separately)

My baggage at check-in:

• Checked baggage (including backpack): 33 kg
• Cabin bag: 9 kg
• Laptop backpack: 6 kg

Scenario 1 (My understanding):
Since my checked baggage was 3 kg over and my cabin bag was 2 kg over, shouldn't the excess baggage charge be based on 5 kg (3 + 2)?

Scenario 2 (What the airline staff said):
The staff informed me that the total cabin baggage (cabin bag + laptop bag) cannot exceed 10 kg. Since I didn't have enough time to rearrange my luggage, they asked me to check in my entire 9 kg cabin bag. As a result, my checked baggage became 42 kg, and I was charged for 12 kg excess baggage.

After checking the SriLankan Airlines baggage policy, I couldn't find any clause stating that the combined weight of the cabin bag and laptop bag must not exceed 10 kg. From what I found, Economy Class allows one 7 kg cabin bag, and one laptop is permitted in addition to the cabin baggage, but I couldn't find a total combined weight limit for both together.

Am I missing something in the policy, or was the excess baggage calculated incorrectly?

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts, especially if you've experienced something similar with SriLankan Airlines.

You can't carry a laptop bag with 6 kg's with a another 9 kg's hand luggage bro. On a good day they might not weigh it , but on a bad day you will asked to pay. As per the policy they can decide whether it's suitable or not.

SriLankan is now desperate for money.

I've been flying SriLankan/Airlanka since 1998. They were ok with 2-3kgs extra and never made a fuss. But recently, they were creating a scene for 2kg extra weight. This is despite me being a OneWorld Sapphire-level frequent flyer.

Technically scenario 2 is correct but I have never come across any airline that weighed the small bag (laptop bag) and I travel by air almost once a month.
