Yes, I know all of you are familiar with Google webmaster tools. But I think many of you not submit your website to it accurately. Lets learns the basics..
If you are a website owner or a webmaster, I'm gonna tell you the very basics you must know when submit website to google webmaster tools. I have so many website with me but for long time I didn't know how to submit those in to google webmaster tools accurately. Ok Lets do it from the beginning ,
Step 01:
Go to Google Webmaster tools here is the link https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
Create a account if you don't have a account on google
Step 02:
Now you are in the welcome page of the google webmaster tool. If you didn't submit your website click on the "Add a Property" Button as shown in the picture

Then you will be asked to enter site name with "http://www."

ok. now you need to verify ownership of the website. google will ask you to upload an html file to your "public_html" root folder in your cPanel to do this. also there are some alternate method to do this but I'm recommend you to use file upload method. Download and upload the html file to your "public_html" folder or the root folder where your website files are in.

click on the "VERIFY" button after uploading html file. if you complete this part accurately you will get the success message and you can see the website in dashboard.
Now the most important part, I think all of you are familiar with this welcome message shown bellow. FUNNY THING IS I USED TO IGNORE THAT MESSAGE... BUT REMEMBER THIS MESSAGE INCLUDES THE MOST IMPORTANT STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW

1Add all your website versionsMake sure you add both "www" and "non-www" versions for your site. Also, if you use the HTTPS protocol, add those variations as well.Here all of you forget to add property without www. partGoogle is asking you to add website with "www" and "non-www". We have already add "www" version already. you need to add "non-www" site too. To do this go to webmaster dashboard and again click "ADD a PROPERTY" button again [Repeat from Step 02]
you might not required to upload verification file again.Now you can see 2 of your website version will be listed. I have shown you below how this website listed in my webmaster tool dashboard.

2Select your preferred versionChoose whether you want your site to appear with or without "www" in Google Search.To do this go to one of your website version and click on gear icon and go to "Site Settings" as shown

Now Set preferred version as shown below. Set Preferred Domain - how do you want to display url in "www" or "non-www" . crawl rate settings its better to use recommended settings.

3Select target countrySet your geographic preference if your site targets users in a specific country.Yes this is also important. for example if your website target for a specific country lets say India or US or Sri Lanka you need to select the country you are targeting. If your domain is a country domain like .in, .lk, .pk google will automatically set country preferences. to set country go to "SEARCH TRAFFIC" -> "International Targeting" ->"Country Tab" if you are targeting world wide users select "Unlisted"

4Share access with co-workersIf you want other people to access your reports, you can add different access levels.if you want to add more users to manage webmaster tools you can add more users to manage webmaster properties. Manage site users
5Submit a sitemap fileThis helps Google better understand how to crawl your site.Submit a Sitemap is essential part of SEO. to google to find what pages you have in your website you must upload sitemap to folder and add site map details to webmaster tools. go to "CRAWL"-> "Site Map"-> "Add/Test Sitemap" as shown below.
