So it seems you do understand the situation in North is bad as it is. Surely you're able to understand this decision will make that situation worse right? Do not forget; TNA was the political wing of LTTE; it still is. This is a huge leap towards the success of their operation

... which our very own Prime Minister promised they could handle but obviously failed in walking his talk.

As a concerned citizen, OP mentioned how the new PM and President were unable to fulfill what they promised - I don't understand why you felt the need to bash OP for that, going all out on him saying he's an "illiterate ponnaya"

It doesnt matter which gvt is there.EU takes their own decisions. Since when do they consider or take decisions by asking from sri lanka? Lol
Theres a reason to blame gvt for being retarded.but blaming them for something thats out of their control is pretty much retarded

And abt the shit in north.it was still like that evem when mahinda was in power, during is final part. So shit.

No risk since 2009? based on who's facts?
Evidence? have they seen the north since 2009?
EU failing to provide evidence or GOSL hiding what happens in north from the EU since '2015'??

So in other words, A silent terrorist is not a terrorist?? LOL go suck a UNP ponsi boy dude!

Oh wait. Who was in power in 2009 to 2015.shit.

You need to look up the procedure for listing or de-listing a organization as a terrorist organization in EU.

    Proposal for listing/delisting

Persons groups and entities can be included on the list on the basis of proposals submitted by member states or third states. A request for delisting can be made by listed persons, groups and entities, by a member state or by the third state which had originally proposed the listing.

    http://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/policies/fight-against-terrorism/terrorist-list/

Sri Lanka, as a "third state", is fully capable to intervene and lay out how LTTE separatists and LTTE sympathizers are still active in EU and in Sri Lanka despite the military loss of the LTTE in 2009 - which PM Ranil Wickramasinghe promised they would do but it seems they have done naught to contest Decision to de-list LTTE from the terrorist organizations list. (Which they did back in 2014, when MR was the president)

Sri Lanka’s EU Ambassador Rodney Perera travelled to Strasbourg on October 21 to attend the EU parliament session; he also planned to contact two committees, foreign affairs and security and defense, and to lobby the European Commission, to contest the decision and maintain the listing. (Sri Lanka to Contest the European Court Decision Lifting Sanctions of LTTE, COLOMBO PAGE (Oct. 19, 2014).)

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) - The European Union's top court took a step on Thursday towards confirming the removal of Hamas and the Tamil Tigers from an EU terrorism blacklist, despite protestations from Israel and the Sri Lankan government.

If you say that we stand a chance against their rulings. (EU Court)

This gvt is pathetic and theres no debate about that.
but just because its pathetic doesnt mean we should blame and pin everythin on them.

    Procedure for listing and delisting
The Council reviews the list at regular intervals and at least every 6 months. In addition to this regular review, the Council can, at any time, adopt a decision on listing or delisting of persons, groups and entities.

If this GVT is to blame on this as the author of this thread says then why didn't they remove LTTE as soon as they came to Power. Its been nearly 2 years and its now they decided to do it.If its been done by the powers of TNA why did they wait this long?

    Approval by the Council
The Council adopts the changes to the list, which are published in the Official Journal. For each person, group and entity subject to the restrictive measures under Council regulation 2580/2001 (freezing of funds and financial assets), the Council also provides a statement of reasons making clear how the criteria for listing have been met.

The Sri Lankan government had said in 2014 that it would provide the evidence which the court found lacking to support sanctions against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

In both cases, judges of the General Court ruled that EU leaders relied too heavily on media reports rather than their own investigations when they imposed asset freezes and travel bans dating back 15 years on members

LTTE to remain on EU’s terrorism list despite ECJ’s ruling :lol::lol:

    July 26, 2017 08:54 pm

    By Ayshwarya Yapa

The European Union (EU) announced that they would continue to consider the LTTE as a terrorist organisation, despite the ruling made by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) earlier today (26).

The EU made this announcement in the evening today (26), issuing a statement following the decision made by the ECJ.

The ECJ earlier today (26) made the decision to take the LTTE off the list of recognized terrorist organizations and accordingly, annul measures taken against the LTTE such as the freezing of their funds.

Responding to the ECJ’s ruling, the EU issued a statement saying that the current ruling of the ECJ would be carefully analysed, and proceeded to confirm that restrictive measures against the LTTE would accordingly remain in force until further notice.
