A 16-year-old school girl in Katupotta used a pestle (molegaha) to defend herself when three men attempted to rape her, police said.

Katupotta Inspector Lakdas Abeygunasekera said the men

sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital.

The attackers had forcibly entered the house and accosted the girl while she was alone but the teenager realizing the danger she was in grabbed a pestle from the kitchen and bravely defended her self.

On hearing her screams villagers surrounded the suspects and giving them a further dose of bitter medicine took the suspects to the police.
