Telecommunication Regulatory Commission made a puppet regarding FUP

On the 25th of July 2011, The countries largest Telecommunication Service Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom applied a throttling (slowing) mechanism to its Unlimited Broadband customers without their prior knowledge misleading many customers and causing great inconvenience. The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) who is the regulator has informed that no permission has been given to SLT to implement such a throttling system on existing Unlimited broadband packages.

SLT however continues to apply this new throttling system without any approval from TRCSL. SLT is also in the process of asking customers to sign confessions that they would not use their Unlimited Broadband packages over 18GB.

Similar throttling was enforced on the 1st of January 2011 where TRCSL intervened to solve the matter, however the procedure took over three weeks to complete.
