    It is being launched by the Presidential Special Task Force under the theme “A live weapon for English Language”. The intention is to provide knowledge with the help of the electronic media. A special discussion to peruse the possibility of providing English Language training was held under the patronage of President Rajapakse at Temple Trees today. All electronic media heads and media representatives participated. The President said it is the need of the hour to provide streamlined English knowledge to the new generation. A survey has revealed that about 80% of the households in Sri Lanka use television. As such, television is the most appropriate media that can provide distant education. It is the President’s view to make optimum use of it. He urged the electronic media hierarchy to craft a programme to solicit the Indian experience. Eight educational institutions in are already willing to provide the necessary technical knowledge. The President instructed his Coordinating Advisor Sunimal Fernando to secure their experiences. President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga was present at this discussion.
