Terrorists Use Hindu Kovil & Vel Cart for Safe Keeping; Micro Pistol & Grenades Found
JAFFNA: TROOPS in the JAFFNA peninsula threw a security blanket in KANDARODDAI village area this afternoon (29) in order to nab four Tiger terrorists who had fled after hiding inside the MAKIAPIDDY Hindu Kovil (temple) behind its Vel Cart with their arms and ammunition.
Troops on foot patrol in the area at about 12.00 noon after observing a strange movement inside the temple’s special hut-type structure where the covered holy Vel Cart has been kept parked were about to summon reinforcements to conduct a check on the suspicious place. In the meantime, four suspicious men suddenly emerged from the inside, throwing a hand grenade at the troops and began to taking to their heels.
Pandemonium broke out as the grenade exploded and devotees started running in all directions.
Those terrorists mingling with the devotees disappeared as the troops started chasing them behind.
Troops afterwards inspected the Vel Cart parking location and uncovered one micro pistol, two magazines, one pistol hoister, one grenade launcher, ten 40 mm grenades, three night vision devices, four combat kits, two hand grenades, one unusable hand grenade, two ground sheets, one Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, one compass, thee belt orders, one combat T- shirt, three pairs of Army-type boots, two packs, six water bottles, one Nokia mobile phone, one video camera, one charger, eighteen batteries, five sarongs, one bag, three T-shirts, Rs 20,000 in cash, three saline bottles and eight nourishment biscuit packets.
As this report was being filed, troops are combing KANDARODDAI area in search of those Tiger terrorists who had disappeared into the village area.
