Ok I know what ya'll thinking.. not another Jayasuriya thread!

But seriously, I couldn't find a thread which seriously discussed the Jayasuriya issue in a proper manner without being succumb to feelings and fanboysm about him, so lets talk this over..

Here's what I think,

I think Jayasuriya is probably the greatest ODI player in the history of the game, 5 figure total runs and 300+ wickets, he easily out number others in terms of all-round performance, and his power and the flow of his strokes is just so authentic and RAW  VERY UNIQUE!

I've seen people saying "He's done a lot to Sri Lanka cricket so he should be there", I think this attitude is SO WRONG! Yes.. he's done a lot to SL Cricket but should we keep him or any other player, just because they done a good job? or because they keep doing it? I think its the latter!

The place in the Sri Lankan team should be secured not by seniority but based on performance, you may also add a bit of intuition there but shouldn't not get carried away with it too much because at the end all that matters is how well you are performing NOW!

Ok! here's a quick run down on Sri Lanka's top 4 batters currently and thier ODI performances this year so far and last year, have a look at the graph!

Well... to me.. Mahela seems a more concern than Jayasuriya! But then that intuition factor kicks... in last year he was the captain and Sri Lanka had a good run under his captaincy, but this year he is a concern!

Dilshan....:lol::lol: he is in wonderland, not need to talk about him!

And Sanath hasn't done that bad with a batting avg. of almost 30, please take note that he also picked up 9 wickets so far this year with a bowling average of 37.11 a piece, which is 6 more wickets than last year and his last year bowling average was a horrible 55!

Jayasuriya [this year | last year]
Kumar [this year | last year]
Mahela [this year | last year]

Its really nice to see someone took foward to discuss this issue on more accurately and information based :)

But as I said before I consider only three facts

    • He may be gone out for very low score but yet he hasnt wasted balls.
    • If he manage to hold on a wicket , most of the time Sri Lankan team end up with very high score
    • Besides all of this he's damn smart bowler

So he should be in the team:)

Thanks for all your comments, but rather than just saying his (Jayasuriya's) time is up, it would be nice if you can justify your statement, and you can also talk about other players that might need to be considered, also who should replace Jayasuriya!

Sanath should retire but before that Mahela ?????? if they get 100 or quick 50 everyone say they should play but all forget that they comes after 5 or 6 innings.
playing with this two is not a asset to the future of the cricket of our country..
Young players getting older on the bench..
my personal view is sanath, mahela & murali should retire

I think Thilan already got his chance, he's now doing what Hashan Tillakarathne did some years back!

Mendis... Yes! he is going out of form... Asian countries are picking him up quickly, he isn't a good fielder or batter.. he needs to lift his game a bit!

Ok! if you say Jayasuriya must go, who we going call in for his position?

Chamara Kapugedara? his last year batting avg. was 28, this year avg. 20

Upul Tharanga? Last year avg. was 20, this year 28

Still not good enough we might as well keep Jayasuriya, at least he can bowl!

Does Sri Lanka need Jayasooriya as a bowler or a batsman??
Then what about Rangana Herath. I think his balling performances are better than Jayasooriya's.

:no::no: Who says we need another Jayasuriya to replace him??? what a stupid point
Do we had another aravinda or Arjuna to replace them??
What we need is another player, who can play his own inning, own style
for that let jayasuriya retire, we can fill that slot with a young energetic lad

AS far as tournament is concerned we need another fast bowler. And either Jayasooriya or Murali has to make way. murali seems out of form to me. partly because of his injury, i hope. Jayasooriya is just getting old, his response to short ball seem to be getting slower and slower.
