A: I am told that it was written initially as a poem and was published in the papers around the time I was born. Clarence Wijewardene who was very popular at that time through his band, was going solo and he happened to come across this poem and had asked my father if he could make it into a song. It basically launched his solo career. This became quite a hit and at the same time it caused me embarrassment when I was young because it was written for me and my name was in it (smiles)
