The deserving champion at the finals of the Mega Star reality show organized by Swarnavahini that was held on Saturday (30), parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera, lost his chance due to the pressure of President’s confidential secretary, parliamentarian Sajin Vass Gunawardena, reliable sources said.
With the defection of UNP MP Upeksha Swarnamali also known as Pabha to the government to support the 18th Amendment the Mega Star show became battle between the ggovernmentand the opposition with Pabha and Dayasiri battling for the championship.
It was reported earlier the Sajin had asked the organizers of the programme, Swarnavahini to ensure that Pabha won the championship.
After the conspiracy was revealed in the media, Swarnavahini programmes director Buddhika Kulasuriya had informedd Sajin that Pabha could no longer be made the winner and asked him
to make an alternative proposal. Sajin had said that if Pabha could not be given the championship, it should not in any way be given to Dayasiri. He had said it was the President’s stance.
It was finally agreed not to give the championship to either Pabha or Dayasiri and to give it either to Suresh Gamage or Ajith Weerasinghe.
Managing Director of Swarnavahini, Jeevaka Edirisinghe had also agreed to the proposal. He had agreed after Ajith Weerasinghe had helped get valuable gifts to be handed over to the Mega Star winners.
Sources said that although one of the judges in the show, deputy minister Mervyn Silva was informed of the agreement between Sajin and Swarnavahini, he had made comments in favor of Dayasiri in order to cover up the government’s conspiracy.
