(Lanka-e-News, January 09, 2009, 8.10 PM) The funeral of the slain Sunday Leader editor Lasantha Wickramathunga will be held in Borella cemetery on Monday, January 12.
United National Party General Secretary Thissa Aththanayaka appeals from the public to hoist a white flag to respect the journalist and to hoist a black flag to in protest of the brutal assassination.
The UNP General Secretary said that the sound track of the state head threatening to kill the Sunday Leader editor would be given to the public to hear soon. Addressing a press briefing held in Colombo today (09) MP Aththanayaka said that the government was planning to cover its corruption through this meticulously planned assassination.
He said that the government and some government leaders were accused for the killing. In a time the credit of defeating LTTE goes to the security forces, if the government goes for this kind of brutal assassinations, the people will have to consider it seriously, says the UNP General Secretary. These attacks target to suppress the freedom of expression and democracy, he says.
