well I went through the video.. what he says has some good logic in it.. u can find thousands of this sort of monks...talking abt the way he makes fun out of what he says..and that is not so venerable..he's breaking the rules monks have to follow (Indriya sanwaraya nehe).
Back to the logic part... of course Buddha didnt accept what Devadatta suggested..neither did he accept animal killings...he knew it was the way world goes..no one can stop it, people tend to after the taste...they are naturally inclined to that..but the one who has developed wisdom, who wants to get rid of the sufferings, both worldly and spiritual, would stay away from direct or indirect animal slaughter, and he will try to avoid the ongoing as well as potential killings, and thusly he will avoid people from doing sins and suffering as a result..the logic here may not be clear to you since you may be in a different vision..of course it would be unfair if he placed rules over that, but the one who really wants to get rid of the endless sufferings in the sansara, taking place as a result of our mind's tendancy to grab or cling to things, will practise vegetarianism...and would love the animals and all the living forms.
so this is my answer..I did explain more clearly.
