    Actually, it is called Oppari. One of the customs that followed in south Indian funerals. In south India, there are dedicated people who do this as a profession and get paid as well. In that, they praise the person who passed away and tells good things about him/her.

    this is an age old hindu ritual among some communities. The mourning recitation is done by people who are specialised in this. Nothing to do with election. Lyrics are like praising the good deeds of the person and about the widow.

    Crying in a tamil funeral is a custom and there are people who are specialzed in that. Thay are a kind of pallbearers
