KILINOCHCHI: THE BUNKER LINE along NACHCHIKUDA-AKKARAYANKULAM road was completely destroyed by the troops of the 58 Division by Saturday (4) afternoon and continued their advance further northwards.

Defiant soldiers first crawled through the ditch dug on their way and reached the earth bund closer to the PANDIVEDDIKULAM tank capturing all Tiger bunkers along the earth bund which troops later occupied.

Attack on Tiger strong points along the tank bund was launched subsequently by the troops who captured four strong points put up in a distance of about 200 m from each other on the PANDIVEDDIKULAM tank bund along which the NACHCHIKUDA-AKKARAYANKULAM rood runs.

Fighting that ensued west of AKKARAYANKULAM area including PANDIVEDDIKULAM killed twenty terrorists and injured another fifteen.

Four soldiers scarified their lives and six others sustained injuries during confrontations.

Mission of the ground troops was assisted by Air Force fighter craft which shelled Tiger positions.

The previous day (3), at the end of fierce battle fought in the same area, troops captured four LTTE strong points. (See Situation Report on 4th October 2008).

In the meantime, one soldier was injured in a confrontation at VANNERIKKULAM the same day around 7.30 p.m.

Troops during their search and clear operations in VANNERIKKULAM and PANDIVEDDIKULAM areas recovered fifty-eight anti personnel mines and four IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).
