Batticaloa District TNA Parliamentarian P. Ariyanenthiran cautioned that Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka will be responsible of fanning communal unrest in the country in the future.

Ariyanenthiran released a statement yesterday to counter the comments made by Champika Ranawaka saying that if the US resolution against Sri Lanka succeeds in Geneva there will be a communal unrest in the country.

Ariyanenthiran in his statement has said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa wherever he goes he preaches on communal harmony and invites the people in the North to travel to South and tells the people in the South to go North to build up the goodwill between the two communities. Whereas a key Minister in the Rajapaksa Government has warned the people of this country of a communal unrest if the US backed UNHRC resolution succeeds in Geneva.

“Innocent Sinhalese people want to live in peace with the Tamils in the country. Whenever they are provoked by unscrupulous politicians like Ranawaka only, they engage in violence .The past communal unrests in 1956 and 1983 had proved that the communal minded politicians were behind the scene in instigating the violence.

The latest warning of unleashing a communal unrest has come from Minister Champika Ranawaka. Therefore the Government and the International Community should take notice of this highly sensitive and irresponsible comment of Champika Ranawaka.

Therefore following the voting in Geneva if anything occurs, with regard to the communal unrest or threats to the TNA Minister, Champika Ranawaka and the Rajapaksa Government have to take the responsibility of those atrocities,”Ariyanenthiran said.
