President Mahinda Rajapakse at an all party conference meeting Four Tamil National Alliance MPs are among those who have shown interest in joining the government, senior minister claims.
Defence affairs spokesman, minister Keheliya Rambukwella said discussions are on between the government and some 18 members of the UNP who are willing to join the government.
"These UNP parliamentarians have shown interest to assist the president", he said.
Even Sri Lanka Muslim Congress(SLMC) has openly said they would join the ruling party.
"These are the information I have and results of these discussions could be seen within the next few weeks", Minister Rmbukwella told BBC.
Memorandum of Undertanding signed between the government and the UNP is not barrier for these parties to assist the government, Minister Rambukwella said.

If this is true then it will at least be a good propaganda stunt. It will show that even the "Voice of the Tigers" in the parliament are now turning against them. We must remember that most of the T.N.A. MP's are not real supporters of the Tigers but are only doing so in fear of their lives. I support neither the U.N.P. or the P.A. or any other political party for that matter but this move to bring every party under one wing and form a united political front to work against the terrorists is worthy of my support and commendation.
