Three of the five top rugby playing countries in Asia - Korea, Kazakhstan and Arabian Gulf have confirmed their participation at the Singer-Sri Lankan Rugby Sevens which will be worked off at Nittawala, Kandy from September 5 to 7, 2008.
Singapore, China, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, India, Host nation Sri Lanka, Philippines, Jordan, Iran are the other countries which have confirmed their participation.
These teams agreed to take part in the tournament at the ARFU council meeting held on June 13 in Bangkok, Thailand at which Sri Lanka was represented by the President of SLRFU DIG Nimal Lewke.
As only 10 teams are allowed to take part in the tournament the organisers will decide on the 10 countries which will be taking part. The development is really an encouraging one as almost all the Asian rugby playing countries except two have decided to take part at this most looked forward to international tourney in Sri Lanka.
All arrangements for the tournament will be organised by Kandy Sports Club with a committee appointed by the SLRFU headed by Vice President Asanga Seneviratne.
