Top Bodu Bala Sena member goes into hiding
A high ranking, lay member of the Bodu Bala Sena has reportedly gone into hiding at a ‘safe house’ in the Sri Lankan capital anticipating a top level government directive to arrest him, informed sources close to the party said on Tuesday.
The sources said there was a plan to arrest Bodu Bala Sena activists on complaints of Muslims over the Halal issue or from Buddhists monks who came under pressure of the group due to their activities which were against Buddhist principles.
The plan was to keep these activists under arrest until the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions conclude in Geneva, the sources said. The radical Buddhist group has been critical over the Halal certfication issue and stirred protests in front of Muslim establishments. (BS)
