PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — A 67-year-old woman is recovering after a trained falcon attacked her Sunday night.
Provincial police say the woman was walking her small dog at 8:18 p.m. north of Trent University when the bird attacked.
She received injuries to her eye, chin, cheek and shoulder, police said. The woman was treated at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Const. Iain McEwan said it seems as if the falcon was hunting and viewed the dog as its prey.
“As far as I’m aware, the dog didn’t seem to sustain any injuries,” McEwan said.
The falcon’s owner regained control of the bird and gave the woman his contact information, McEwan said.
McEwan said he isn't sure what charges could be applicable in such a case.
The investigation continues.
Peterborough is 140 km northeast of Toronto.
