75 year old Kamala Jayasekara, a resident of Kolonnawa who could ‘almost’ ambulate by herself alone boarded a tuk yesterday (05) bearing registration number WP AAS 8156, near her home.
Having completed her affairs, she returned in the same tuk.
Before Mrs. Jayasekara got off the tuk, she had paid the driver his fees.
Noticing that Mrs. Jayasekara had trouble getting off the tuk, the driver offers her assistance from the sidewalk to the stairwell leading to her residence.
While descending the stairs, noticing that Mrs. Jayasekara carrying a wad of cash in her hand, the driver snatches it from her, with little or no resistance from her due to her age.
Having snatched Rs. 28,000/= in cash, the driver of the tuk scuttles to his trishaw not before crashing his phone to the sidewalk, leaving a part behind which he could not salvage due to his panic.
