Plot

Charlie Crews was an everyday, honest police officer for the LAPD when one day he got arrested for the murder of his friend and the guy’s family (wife and kid). He was sentenced to life (hence the title) and soon found himself in Pelican Bay, a supermax prison. What really happened to him in prison is revealed bit by bit but it does not take a genius to figure he did not have a good time in there. Add the fact that his friends and family turned their backs on him you can kinda imagine what he could have gone through. In situations like this people often find solace in God but Charlie finds a different type of book: The Path to Zen.

After twelve years he gets exonerated and, as part of his settlement is a detective badge, he starts fighting crime again. The series is about his life after prison. How he tries to find the people responsible for framing him. How he deals with the life he got back and the one they took away from him. And of course every week he and his partner Dani Reese solve murders too.
