Udumbara Sinhala Movie Honest Review
Include spoilers
Watched Udumbara because it was about uplifting the spirit of sportsmanship within every one. It was a praiseworthy movie because of Jackson Anthony's acting.
But unfortunately the entire movie was ruined by one of its sponsors, S-Lon. They had ruined the feel of it by heavily and unnecessarily advertising their services inside the movie to convince people that they support blossoming and talented new athletes in the country, which is does not seem to be happening in the actual context. This was the biggest issue in the movie. They could have used a different name that does not exist other than making a 2 hour long movie a medium to advertise. Their over advertising made it funny when their brand name was shown at the Commonwealth Games.
However the use of a real female athlete (Nadeeshani Henderson) for Udumbara is a plus point and her sportsmanship could be clearly seen in her character. But there was an issue with the casting as to her young ages which was acted by a different actress (Harshi Rasanga) looked nowhere near Udumbara's grown up looks. Additionally no idea why they had to replaced Nadeeshani's voice by Paboda Sandeepani. Hirunika Premachandra as a debutant gave a commendable performance. Music was good with an Indian touch, and songs were patriotic and motivational.
The plot at various parts resembled the Bollywood hit "Dangal". The seizure of the first coach at the Commonwealth finals in Dangal was replaced here by making the coach bedridden by conducting an attack on him using goons as per the instructions of Udumbara's mother to keep the coach away from her so that she can concentrate on her International level training.
Overall this movie gets a rating of 6/10 and I recommend every one to watch it because it is better than Sirasa's last flop "Goal".
