UNP says will not be deterred by attack

UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya said that the attack on the UNP protest in Punchi Borella this evening was carried out by thugs linked to the government and accused the Police of looking on while the UNP members who were engaged in a peaceful protest demanding the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka were being attacked.

“These men were carrying swords, iron poles, stones and petrol bombs and attacked the peaceful protesters,’ Mr.Jayasuriya told reporters at a hurriedly summoned press conference a short while ago.

Vehicles belonging to several UNP politics including Mr.Jayasuirya were damaged in the attack.

“We will not be deterred by this attack but will continue our protests, “he added.
