Deputy Education Minister resigns to contest for Presidency
Deputy Education Minister M.M. Mustaffa said that he would be resigning from his ministerial post to contest the upcoming presidential election. Speaking to Daily Mirror online the Deputy Minister said that he has already informed his intention to the government.
Elaborating on his decision to contest the polls the deputy minister said that he was not given an opportunity by the government to implement his plans with regard to higher education and providing job oriented education to students to develop the country.
The Deputy Minister further said that he was willing to reconsider his decision to contest the poll and extend support to General Sarath Fonseka if he is given a written assurance that the 13th and the 17th amendments will be implemented if the General is elected president.
