Vista Black Edition - Installation

When I try to install the latest Vista Black Edition, I get the following message: A required cd/dvd device driver is missing. And it asks me what folder it is in. I am doing a clean install, so I don't have any folders. I chose to install Black Edition because my recovery CD's keeping stalling at 99% during installation. There might be a connection between the two problems, but I'm not sure.

I have a HP Pavillion dv5z-1000, AMD 64bit.

I've tried to install it on a fresh hard drive and I've tried to install it in a virtual drive, neither works. Right now I'm using Ubuntu but I need windows to run a certain program that won't work in WINE or Crossover.

where did you get that error message at what point? Can you go to the installation menu (DOS like menu at the beginning of the installation) ?

the main installation shows up that says Black Edition v2

I can then click on three different buttons: install black edition; repair computer; see computer requirements

I clicked on install black edition which takes me to a new screen

then the message shows up that i don't have the required cd/dvd drive (which is weird because if i didn't have the right drives then how did the cd even start in the first part)

from there i'm asked to show where the driver folder is

Is this a clean install from a bootable DVD?

I may have found the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952951

To workaround this issue, disable AHCI mode for your disk controller in the system BIOS. Typically the controller has to be changed from AHCI mode to "IDE" or "ATA" mode.

Microsoft's website says I need to follow the above message, but when I went to the startup menu, I didn't find an option to disable AHCI. I have a HP Pavillion dv5z 1000.
