My first loved First person shooter game was half life.end of 1999...Gorden Freemon was a hero.why he became a hero in gaming world...? Coz half life was the first game to came up with superb 3d surrounding and advance AI.. I still remember the thrill i got ..loading it with newly purchased 3dfx Vooodo 3 16mb gaming card powered by open GL drivers..
I tried hard to get hold of HL's expansion opposing force.but still i could not find a copy..it remains as most anticipated game for me which i couldn't play .other one is Srious Sam 2nd encounter

first one the dos game i suppose ..where you are given an hour to complete whole 12 levels..lol i saved the damn princess a few times

Yeah you are right.. most 3D games at the time were DOS based, and one of the main thing people liked about Half-Life was the Hero was no longer a typical muscular body builder type fellow..

Guess what the newest HERO in town is a PhD. holder in Physics! people loved the idea that sometimes geeks can rise to the occasion.. and Half-Life wasn't just a point and shoot game it was different you had to solve puzzles to get things done.. and so the tag line for Half-Life goes...

you get to go with the big alien boss on the roof of a high riser building with cheerleaders all around.
You gotta have serious amounts of heavy weapons ammo to fight him.
After killing you get to do one of the cheerleaders (sounds only).
