Creative makes good sound cards mate..So If you wanna experience real 7.1 go for a X-Fi Sound card first..there are only a few 7.1 speaker systems in the market and the best you can afford is Creative's Inspire P7800..The bass ain't that good but hell..u get 7 speakers + bass..the wires aren't long tho..that's the biggest problem of the setup..
There is also the Creative GigaWorks S750 wireless system which'll cost u a dang fortune..surely you won't go for it but who knows if you're one of those millionaires..lol
My suggestion for you is to go for a Creative 5.1 speaker system..you will find quite a few wired and wireless systems..I heard that Logitech makes good speakers but have never used one..

nahh budz..Logitech's way expensive..why are you looking for a 7.1 anyway? It's all rite for a home theatre system machan but for a pc 5.1 is enough. blv me.. a good 5.1 speaker setup ceritified wid THX and a Creative X-Fi sound card will do the trick..You really need a X-Fi to play games like BattleField, Quake etc. That'll give you crisp top notch sounds..so upgrade ya sound card first

Altec Lansing! Best PC speakers! I have tested with many products, wrote reviews and i own. Their 2.1 MX5021 sounds like high end home theater. Super mids and highs, tight clear bass

If you wanna go for pro PC speakers and have money then go for Logitech Z5500 Digital. You can shake your room. But not crystal sounding like MX5021, slightly low but much more power and better bass performance.

If you can find Klipsch they also sound super.

Do not but Creative Inspire or PC works they sucks! MegaWorks or Gigaworks have good lows but lacks high quality mids.

if you think so, when you listen to Altec Lansing MX5021 or FX6021 you will see Creative Inspire just crap. Cheap drivers lol Even Altec Lansing 2.1 sounds way better than Inspire 7.1
ppl think it's better coz creative make good sound cards, pure crap. It's like all ppl say Bose is the best coz it has big price and advertisements say sounds like out of this world

Other thing don't just buy those expensive sound cards without checking their features. You may don't have media that gives the advantage or not oftenly using such media files. Have to say on normal usage it gives really small differance in sound quality. Many ppl report they can't even find any differance than thier on board sound. So check before your paying big $$ on sound cards.
But having external sound card also slightly ease the load on your CPU, coz onboard sound use your system resources. So first look what you really need and what you really have and what you gonna play. May be you really have no need of any of those audigyz or X-Fiz, only cheap Live! 24-bit or Sound Blaster 5.1 will suite you.

unless you're not planning on watching real 5.1 movies or playing high tech games it's useless for you to buy X-Fi cards. and dude, Altec Lansing don't make 5.1 speakers yahh? that's why I thought tt was useless.I mean we are into 7.1 now and they still don't have 5.1..but even the 2.1 MX5021 is THX certified..I'm impressed man. It's about time they moved onto a 5.1 setup.
btw GTRZ, how much will a 5.1 Inspire T5900 cost in SL?

the VS3151 and the GT5051 yahh? yep they have built in RCA inputs for ya DVD player, portable audio player and gaming consoles. btw mobile phones tend to cause problems to speakers. Make sure they are shielded properly..not the casing, they do something to block the waves frm ya mobile phone frm interupting the frequency.
