Soldiers deployed along Cambodia's disputed border with Thailand say fighting between the two nations has broken out near an 11th century temple for a third day despite a cease-fire.

A Cambodian soldier, Lt. Pen Song, says troops exchanged artillery and mortar fire along the Phnom Troap mountain range, about 3 kilometres from the historic Preah Vihear temple, a U.N. World Heritage Site that belongs to Cambodia under a 1962 World Court ruling disputed by many Thais.

A Thai official in the disputed area confirmed that fighting had broken out Sunday evening.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Cambodia: Heritage site damaged in border fighting

Cambodia says part of an 11th century temple has collapsed during a third day of border clashes with the Thai army. The government cited a military commander as saying a wing of the Preah Vihear temple was damaged Sunday as a result of Thai artillery bombardment.

There was no immediate comment from Thai authorities.

The fiercest border clashes in years erupted Friday between troops along the border.

Fighting has continued despite at least two cease-fires.
