We need to make quota restriction on Vehicle imports per year. Restrictions should not be on Hybrid or electric vehicle or Buses or Vans . But other vehicles which is used for home and luxery vehicles. This will reduce Rupee devauation.

When you import more vehicle than export out of the country then Rupees devalues more. Country needs to maintain valueable import of essential goods. Vehicle import is not much needed. Since people can use more public transport then. Rupee is depreciating more and more. The cost of living would rise. Sri Lanka is import dependent nation. We do not export more goods then we import. So Strong Rupee is vital for lower price of fuel and import of Sugar, Milk powder, meachinary etc.

Theoretically this would be a good move to stabilize rupee. Its devaluing like hell. If any government would introduce the reduction I believe that it would be highly unpopular move. Newly elected government definitely retain from doing it. Since the majority or UNP voter base consist of urban middle class, this will cause much havoc for them.

Then it will again affect on vehicle prices and you can buy a used corolla 121 for 3.0 million :P :)

I believe there are other concerns we should control specially petroleum products :)

    good point.

more petroleum based products = more petiole consumption

more petrol consumption = more money spent on imported petrol
