U3 is slow. It doesn't support Vista Readyboost, which means it's slow. :(

I've a best solution, buy a handy USB 2.0 card reader without memory, plugin a RS-MMC chip (of your required capacity), its fast !

(my experience, I have just a 64mb chip on my card reader I bought for 700/=, occasionaly I plugin my 512mb chip on my phone, if needed)

How fast are they compared to flash drives?

    Where I'm now
I use a U3 2GB drive bought frm the place Djpata mentioned.Visit www.techgsmsl.com for more info.I bought it for 4650 but after 3 weeks it dropped into that price.800 less.Thats the cheapest place u can hav a Kingston flash.BTW the Kingstons r slow. 6 & 3.If u want speed and have money buy a corsair voyager for 7k which has 27 & 12!!If u r on the middle buy a Transcend which has a somewhat powerful program that can lock the PC when Flash isnt plugged in for about 3k.In India Itis about 2600 LKR.

 No Idea! How to compare? How to know transfer rate??
There must be programs that test the speed (sequential read/write and random access). You can use Sisoft SANDRA scored to compare I guess.
