yep, I'm also not a fan of Windows mobile, but if you must get one then take a look at these :

• Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO
• Samsung i900 Omnia
• HTC Touch Diamond2

• Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1
• HTC Touch Pro2

Then buy Nokia mobile with S60 touch OS,u can do mail stuffs well and read,edit office doucments too...Nokia 5800,N97 or Samsung i8910 Omnia HD will be best solution...

as kinkon said, You can do all that on Symbian too : send receive emails, open and edit all MS office documents (Word, ppt, excel) and pdfs.
