If you meant OS, I learned all basic theoretical parts involved in systems programming during my bachelors degree (UCSC CS), learned fair amount of assembly(NASM) myself at that time.

Very few times, specially when debugging some low level stuff.
But when it comes to fields like embedded systems, there can be lot of uses of it.
