Thanks Rapa malli. Good post! I was a vegetarian for years but when i started visiting sri lanka i found it difficult to eat without eating meat or fish. Dried fish in everything as a flavouring!! I now eat meat and fish and don't see it as a problem.

the Dalai Lama (leader of Tibettan mahayana Buddhism) was once asked whether he was a vegetarian. He said he tried being a vegetarian in the 1960's but became ill from lack of protein. So now he eats meat or fish one day and the next day, eats a vegetarian diet. That way, he says, he is a vegetarian for six months of the year :)

I just saw the thread and thought of adding my comments too..

I wrote this using what I have learned so far and I believe that I don't know everything in Buddhism.

First of all I would like to tell you that Buddhism is not a religion that obey a certain kind of god. although there are gods in Buddhist teachings, they are less powerful than humans.

To understand Buddhism, we must understand it's concept, otherwise you wont believe anything which are taught in Buddhism.

According to my point of view Buddha Darmaya = Nature (swabawadarmaya). What you are really doing when understanding Dharmaya is that you are understanding nature, the way it act. and you begin to understand that there is a balance in everything. (most basic concept in nature),

In order to understand nature you must have to have a good control of your mind. And that is taught in buddhism in steps , seela> samadhi > prag(J)hna

Person who understood the Dharma easily recognize that this life is a displeased one and that it happens bcoz of the greediness we all humans have (here the greediness is not just greedy we think, it has a deep meaning, refer books) and to end the chain of life that person can go further more deep into buddhist teaching and can reach Nirvana if want

and eating meat is the same, if someone want to reach nirvana soon first of all that person should stop doing sins (akusala karma) . (sin in Buddhism is a different one and hard to understand, Karma means all the things we do after thinking about it with the knowledge we have).

    eg: (Karma)
We eat meat knowing that an animal has been killed to get the flesh , and also we know that if we stop eating meat the killings to get meat for us will stop.

here the Act = we eat meat
Thought formed during the act = animal has been killed to get the flesh

So it is upto you to decide whether it is a "akusala Karma" or "kusala Karma"

What you get is what have you done (bt it should be a Karma) , its quite simple as that - that happens because to keep the balance in everything.

just think if there is no balance in this world can anything exist?????
Eg : there are good people because of that there are bad people.
Dark is there because of the light
Hard is there because of the soft etc .......... for everything

    just think :

How can you recognize bad if there is no good
Dark if there is no light
Hard if there is no soft

ok so its upto you to decide

anyone can say anything regarding this in their point of view, but the truth remains.

forget buddhism, islam, Hindu teachings, christian teachings etc. for a moment.
But always remember what goes around comes around

and that is to keep the balance of our life, of our world , the whole universe and that happens automatically by nature not by a person or a god of any kind, just think twice.

    I have a question....

The Dr. who speaks in this video, says all those scientific theories has been mentioned in the Quran long time ago.. So he admits that science is infact true!

But then he doesn't explain how God exist according to science?

    or

Is he saying that..... since this much in Quran has been proved true by science...... that he believes the rest is true too?

    About This Video

Dr. Zakir Naik proves to atheists that there is a creator of the universe. i.e - a God

Machan everything he say is correct, :D bt not every word, fault is not with any religion

We all know, including you that humans do mistakes (you believe it right?)

And we all know that in every religion, the records or the teachings were kept in books or studied by heart by ordinary humans throughout these past years. (even in islam . although your god gave the kuran it was later copied by ordinary humans. Same in Buddhism and other religions. So they may have done mistakes when describing things, specially when describing a thing that they have never seen before eg : god in islam, Dharma in Buddhism. etc.,)

However what I'm really saying is that All the religions describe a one thing in different names

eg : Islam - God, Buddhism - Dharma,....., Christianity - God So all are same but we call them in different names

What i say is God = Dharma = Nature , No one can still describe exactly how they look like. At last Nature is the power which we all obey.

I'll get back to the video

there Dr. Zaik says that manufacturer = producer = inventor and he tries to prove that it is god created them all , yes i believe but what he say god also = God in other religions = Dharma = power of the nature

and he says about the big bang and say that it is mentioned in Kuran 1400 years ago But friend remember it is mentioned in Buddhism 2500 years ago in more informative way. (theres a whole suthraya written about it) and theres another soothrayas that describes not about only the moon, sun and our planet earth but the whole universe 2500 years ago. not in chapters but in books.

That creator, that manufacturer, that inventor you call as Allah, others call it Dharma, God, great power, ......... , it can also called as power of nature

so what im tried to tell is that all these things are the same, we never saw them, touch them but it exists, But it will always maintain the balance in everything  and that is unarguable.

When we do a bad thing again that bad will come to us, But if we do a good thing that good will effect to us

i think you understood my friend, Think about it widely, read twice

I think we went off topic a bit , but we cant make anyone understand without telling these things.

    :) :) :) :)
