I like dexter but for me somethings much more unique seems to be there in House. I don't know exactly which. I love Dexter. Dexter is brilliant though the season 5 wasn't up to exception following a brilliant season 4. Hope they'd do better on Season 6.

In houses case, he's a sarcastic genius who hates humanity but wants to find some way in to the people's lives as well
I remember in season 6 seeing an episode where he hired Dr.Foreman' felon brother as an assistant much to Foreman's dismay, to give the brothers a chance to connect. He actually played the antagonist in that episode, but finally the two brothers being reconnected again due to a master scenario carried out by House.

difference maybe Hugh Laurie. He's an accomplished actor and his performance is simply brilliant.
While Micheal Hall is doing a first rate job as an emotionless psychopath who pretends to have emotions, the somewhat wooden nature of the character can get a bit boring. Hugh Laurie on the other hand, portrays a range of emotions which makes his character a lot more interesting.

difference maybe Hugh Laurie. He's an accomplished actor and his performance is simply brilliant.

I have to agree with you. But Michael Hall's performance should also be appreciated as much as Hugh Laurie's though as you said Hugh Laurie may have an edge in performing his character and as a people pleasing entertainer.
