Of coz it has some plot holes I agree, T.
But then again the main plot is entangled with many sub plots which makes it harder to keep on track and fill up the holes without blemishing plot and sub ones. You see the mere fact that this additional inclusion of sub plots degrade the quality , But in my point of view it serves beyond my expectation even with few holes.
To be honest I havent seen this complex Sci-Fi ever. Do me a favor and name me 3 I'd like to check them.

" money grabbing twist" I have no clue what this means. But as I suspected your judgement on this movie has severly clouded by the fact that everybody loves this one and lives under the illusion that just liking this movie is make them classy. Just because it turned out that way doesnt mean the director was looking for it.

Take Minority Report. AFAIK almost everyone likes it but still its awesome sci-Fi . But it gotten its insane popularity coz of the name of Spillberg.

However I agree theres some parts that Caprio crying over his dead wife and trying to live in her memory scene arent exactly not usual Nolan Type

But its not mediocre and definitely not boring :)

I wouldn't say this was really sci fi, it's rather fantasy :) it's undue complexity serves no purpose for me nor for the plot, it's unnecessary. that's exactly what I meant by the 'money grabbing twist' thing, cos it was deliberately made that way to make it look cool, so people who hasn't seen better may think it's the best thing ever  that's also why I would say this is bad cinema, the prime purpose of art should not be to make money. but what else to expect from holywood these days. I wonder if studio heads had no authority over the made of this film, how it might have come out, solely out of the hands of nolan. but no, they got money to make. you acknowledge it or not.

here's a few sci fi films that actually piss on inception. for the heck of it I'd start with excellent 'Matrix'

    stalker
    blade runner
    2001 a space odyssey
    solaris
    Ghost in the shell
    city of lost children
    district 9 (much much better)
    contact
    brazil
    wall e

    and many more.

Well your excellent Matrix contain so many martial art fight which serves no purpose to the plot (as I recall). Its not exactly a twist but "money grabbing" part remains.

Anyway I think this is a matter of personal taste now. I like complex and twisted plots like "The Prestige" and "Inception" itself while you seeking much beyond those. I still have to grow up.

However Im gonna check your list. for that Im thankful :)

Martial art sequences in Matrix do serve a great purpose other than being so effing cool, I mean, what on earth smiths and Neo supposed to do in Matrix? swear at each other? if they gotta fight, why not make it cool

inception isn't really complex, you gotta watch films like Mulholland dr to know what truly a mindfuck is :) most of films I mentioned, got rather complex plots too. try Brazil, Stalker or solaris..you will be thinking of them for months.

I think Prestige is much better than for what I gave credit in the past, should watch it again sometime.

Matrix goes much more beyond that a simple fist fight of that we both know. The only reason to make it cool may be the twistless money grabbing. I still know some punks talking a shit out of its frigging fighting and nothing else.

No comments on Prestige. I have boasted enough of it in this thread :P
Managed to drive away the oldy you know :(

that may be true. but fights in matrix would be an absolute necessity. if you think otherwise, feel free to elaborate. :P and there's no twist in fights Money grabbing I may agree to. regardless all that, matrix was a solid film (ignoring the sequels). and it will be talked about for the years to come.

Wall-e is fine, it's cute. I love those chair-fixed people in it.
I'm pretty selective with movies, anyway here are some I've watched lately.

Queen of the damned (a re watch, this is bad, why did they did it? Book was great and they should have listened to Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire was much better)

Weekend 2011 (no idea if you can find this thought, it got great review marks, well simply because it's great. it's like the portrait of modern day relationship)

Eagle (bad, should have been better, interesting watch though)

Delhi Belly [hindi] (complete copy of Pulp Fiction, except it's worse)

Girl with a pearl earring (great book, fine film, slow distant scenes makes it more artistic. Scarlet Johansson as maid is a plus)

Yeah, but I have this secret obsession to show that scene where Akasha the vampire queen comes to the club and start burning random vampires with her powers, to Twilight fans and ask what Edward's reaction will be if he ever met her.

Dude the movie describes how our senses fool us and you may even connect it to Buddhism though.
I think even that big black guy describe the whole world as bunch of electronic senses (you know our neuron system is biological electrical circuit everything we feel is convey through it as electronic signal and brain is the one who interpret them as various senses and shit ? )

The fighting scenes didnt look like necessarily at that time.
(Again I cant recall the movie entirely let me check it again)

I always thought writers must have been influenced by Buddhism. Hell, I even wrote a non-posted article about it. Oracles reminds me of persons who attained nirvana an so on.
Even, film is all about identifying self and becoming a higher power.

Buddhism is about seeing the world as it is without being rely on just superficial senses. And those who see the natural law can manipulate them for their purpose. Its all their in Matrix
