Original theatrical release was 138min long and was initially greeted with mixed response. Special edition came with 171Min long directors cut..
With the release of directors cut after 3 years,the movie has since developed a strong cult following... Extra 33 min, made the movie much more complete and artistic and closely tally with directors vision ..
"The abyss" for me is much better than Avatar.Its more engaging.
I'd recommend this for all Si Fi fans out there ,give it a go for 2 hour 51 min long special edition.Its a "awesome movie" a near Masterpiece..
