Just finished watching The Hurt Locker.

Only at the end of the movie when the number of days with Delta Company is shown, the full impact of what these guys do on a daily basis hits you.
I guess it deserved the win at the awards.

and sniper shoot out in desert is extremely enjoyable and realistic !

So u can never use the word realistic in movies since u r not in movies.and we r only watching them.:D
no, we can use it when it comes to portraying emotions or situations where we, the average joe, does experience.
Snipers in the desert is not something an average person is likely to experience is it ?

    may be.
but when we say some thing is realistic it does not necessarily mean that we have to have experienced it.Think of a war movie.suppose we r considering Saving Private Ryan.remember the opening part where they keep on moving to to beach while exposing to heavy resistance.Do we have such experience to say it is realistic or not?It feels like thats how things went on at that particular moment.Thats the best way director has imagined it and he had pictured that in best way he could do.I have no second thought that ,other than declaring its realistic.

In well dome movies, such scenes are constructed with advice from military men and veterans. Its not all how the director imagines it.

We deem such scenes "realistic" only after reading what critics or others knowledgeable on the subject (military personal) has said on those scenes. Also by how realistic the effects make the scenes out. Like the shots of soldiers getting shot or being torn to peaces but not by just how accurate such a scene is, like if at that time, armies really did unload boat after boat of men even while getting shot.

I think we have heard of War and Peace by Tolstoy.I mean the book not the movie.I read this huge book(e book using msreader ) And it was a realistic fiction.I sense the realism though out the book.Think of Madame Bovary is Gustave Flaubert's. Its realistic.Realism the technique they use. It can be a movie or a book or may be its a painting.
We generally say its more realistic when ever we feel its the best possible way of art to describe the moment. And i personly dont think we have to wait for a critic to describe its realistic and then we say Yes! its realistic! since if we know the realism technique.

In both books, the author describes the situation well enough and touches on situations that we can directly relate to. Thats where the realism lies.

Read Clerk's Breaking Strain. Its a Sci Fi short story happening on a space ship. Still you'll get the realism in that story due to the actual plot and the way the characters behave and not the setting.

Take "One Hundred Years of Solitude"-Gabriel García Márquez(book) the technique he used was magical realism. So can any one say its not magically realistic?
